Wander Far, Wander Often
Welcome to Wander Woman; an online digital publication that represents the adventurers and wanderlusters amongst us.
Wander Woman was conceived through a passion project on instagram in 2020 through the launch of a social community page #pnggirlstraveltoo.
In 2017 we began to witness a surge within the black communities who were representing across multiple social media platforms. Black people were rising up to challenge the narrative; hashtags like black excellence and melanin magic came into existence.
Today we bear witness to the stories on the black travel experience, lifestyle, fashion and for once we are witnessing the normalizing of black luxury. Social media gave rise to the Black influencer and aspiring entrepreneur and ladies and gents; its safe to say ~ we have arrived!
As empowering as this was, one voice was missing. Papua New Guinean voices were not being heard or represented, even in the Pasifika context. So instead of crying about it, we did what every aspiring disruptor does. If there is no seat at the table, just build your own. Our humble page has experienced steady growth since its inception and Wander Woman is an extension of this.
Our social media presence took affect in the early days of the covid-19 pandemic. The world around us had gone into lockdown and whilst we experienced isolation on a global scale, we collectively used this opportunity to pause, reset and create new opportunities to showcase the vibrancy and success of the melanesian woman.
What initially started out as a platform for Papua New Guinean woman has since expanded to include our closest neighbours, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
Wander Woman is a collection of our stories, experiences and a celebration of our successes as women, as travelers, innovators, entrepreneur and academics. We will continue to celebrate and normalize black luxury, challenge the narrative and promote positive black experiences.
With each and every story to seek to inspire.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. Happy Wanderings!
